Composer | Songwriter | Producer
Nick Hinton is a composer and singer songwriter for film, documentaries, commercials and his own independent releases.
I write music from an idea on the piano or guitar, usually after something has positively inspired me. It could be after watching a film, or after a great talk with someone.
Initially, I started by singing and writing songs for my own independent releases – performing piano, guitars, bass and programming. However, I began to write music without words. A lot of what I listened to at an early age was film music, so this felt like a natural step forward. It felt like a natural progression for me to explore this side of my passion, as often times before a song is even written, I will have played the piano for hours.
My styles vary from solo piano to underscores – from intimate cues to fully realised orchestral pieces. I have also worked on a hybrid of contemporary (rock/pop/electronic/acoustic) and orchestral – this may better suit the needs of a project.
I record and mix in Cubase using sample libraries from VSL, Audiobro, ProjectSam, Steinberg, Soundiron, Spectrasonics and many others.
I also try to incorporate live instruments wherever possible – including the kalimba, bongos, shakers, tambourines and even my own hand-slapped knees!
My music has been licensed by companies including the BBC, NBC, the Discovery Channel, MTV, Channel 5, Getty Images, ABC, Ogilvy and Kaiser Permanente.
All the very best in your creative endeavours,
The sound mix in a film combines elements of dialogue, sound effects, sound design and score in a film or a piece of visual media. Whether it be 5.1 or 2.0, I will work to ensure the integrity of your vision.
